Taking a Break to Break in a New Knee

Easin’ Along is standing (definitely not kneeling) on the sideline this week after total knee replacement surgery on Tuesday.  Everything went extremely well, but I’m a little foggy right now. We’ll save the comments for an update next week. Thanks to all who took the time to send prayers and best wishes. Thanks also to Dr. Michael Holt and the remarkable staff at the University of Tennessee Medical Center who perform miracles every day. You’re the Best.

Finally, to Helen, the person I lean on for everything…I’m gonna lean a little heavier for a while but, as you’ve proven time and again, you’re more than up to the task. I owe you…big time. A simple “thank you” isn’t enough.

  1. Hi Joe,
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. You’ll be “Easin’ Along” again soon…at a less painful full speed!
I’m writing from Summerville, SC…at your recommendation we spent some time today at Folly Beach…what a beautiful stretch of beach. We only had a few hours to explore Charleston, unfortunately, but loved what bit we saw.
Taking a break myself from blogging…just a bit too hard to pull my thoughts together in the midst of travel and moving, but I’ll be back at it soon with scenes from our trip.
    Feel better soon!!

    1. Good morning, Nancy,
Today is the third day after surgery and, so far, so good!

Doesn’t it feel great to breathe in that fresh salt air? Glad you got an opportunity to take a break and do some exploring. We love Charleston and, with grandchildren there, we get to make the trip often.

Best wishes for a smooth move to Florida. Maybe we can do Happy Hour while we’re there in January. Tell Dan I’ll buy the first round.

    1. Hello, Donna,

I can feel the vibes from here and, they’re working! Thanks for sending and for reaching out. After reading your post about the hike, I hope you have another scheduled soon. This has to be a beautiful time in your part of the world.

Have a great weekend (although, in retirement, it’s always the weekend) and please stay in touch.

  2. Joe, how many knees have you two had replaced? Seems like you two spend a lot of time in the operating room.

    1. Hi, Joe,
Helen has two new knees and now I have one. We both have one new hip. We draw a lot of attention in airports!

  3. Joe and Helen, we have been thinking about both of you and know you are so very glad to have this behind you. You probably think we have gone “dark” since we saw you this summer but we are a little overwhelmed in our personal lives. We are doing OK but seem to be on a treadmill with a random speed control. We as currently in Austin TX visiting grandchildren and recovering from the flu that we both caught in CA three weeks ago; get your flu shot is our advice as this is a serious virus. Looking forward to going to FL this winter, hoping the weather will be pleasent their this year.

    Best Regards,

    Rod and Sally

    1. Hello, Rod,
It’s great to hear from you. We understand treadmills as well as anyone. Helen’s hip and my knee has kept us pretty occupied, but hopefully, the worst is behind us for now. Hope to see you in Florida. I’m sending you a PM to coordinate dates. Talk soon,

  4. So thankful your surgery went so well…and here’s to being a very “patient patient” over the next few weeks!

    1. Hi, Cammy,
Patience has never been my strong suit, but I’m giving it the old college try. Helen is a great nurse and her experience with knees is a great benefit to me. Things are going well, and I should be out and about soon. Thanks for stopping by!
